What you see here is one of my worktables. Begin at the ubiquitous coffee cup in the rear, skip down past the 2 figures, to a copy of “The Second Sex”.
Shakin’ it off, signing off, and moving on!
Happy New Year!
My next body of work concerns women. And what better place to begin than with Simone de Beauvoir? As I read I’m looking for questions to address. This is one way I go about starting a new project. Another is by looking at old work to find pieces that still resonate with me.
I chose these 2 small, approximately 6” x 3” x 3”, ceramic figures of women.
The titles are terrible but bear with me. The white one is Mrs. White and the brownish one Mrs. Brownish. One is nude and we don’t know about the other because she’s layered in white. I could go on and on about these two. Who are they as individuals? What might an encounter between the two bring up?
I’ll design an installation similar to “Pushovers Unite” and “Encounters”. The next exhibition, however, in Vallauris, France at the end of April, will include still photos and short films of interactions between the characters.
